We are still all extremely shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected death of our friend and Board member, Jim Levin. Jim was a very valuable member of the Board and Communications Committee, as well as playing a significant role on our website updates. More importantly, however, Jim was a wonderful father to his children Hannah and Jonah and husband of Reggi and personified what a “mensch” is. Just at last week’s Friday night services, I made a mental note as to how I don’t think I ever saw Jim when he wasn’t smiling.
I learned this week that the admiration and respect that the members of our congregation had for Jim are shared by members of the medical community. Jim was recruited 6 years ago to Pittsburgh by Children’s Hospital to become its Chief Medical Information Officer. Following is a link that describes not only what a valuable member that Jim was to the Children’s Hospital leadership team, but also what a “mensch” he was. http://childrenspgh.org/2013/02/13/remembering-an-informatics-pioneer-and-compassionate-friend/
Jim’s impact on our community in the short period of time in which he was here and his impact on the medical community are only outdone by his love and devotion that he had with his family. Jim will be sorely missed.
